Since 1 March 2026 the Clean Energy Regulator requires geotagged, timestamped photos of battery labelling and serial numbers on every STC claim, and uses automated checks to reject the ones that fall short. NSW installs move to the mandatory CER (Consumer Energy Resources) Installer Portal from mid-2026 with CSIP-AUS backstop-enabled inverters, and solar panels not certified to IEC 61730:2023 came off the approved list on 1 May. The federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program applies in the NT at the same rate as everywhere else, applied by your installer as a point-of-sale discount through a registered agent.
The NT's Home and Business Battery Scheme reached its funding cap and closed to new applications. Territory programs have opened and closed on short notice before, so if an installer quotes a territory amount, ask them to name the scheme and show it is currently open.
The NT sits in STC zone 1, rating 1.622, the highest in the country. On the solar side that is a meaningful advantage: the same system earns roughly 37 percent more certificates in Darwin than in Melbourne. The battery rebate itself does not vary by location.
